What started with a shared love for food became a kitchen of our own.

Before we had a name, a logo, or a kitchen of our own, we were here — learning the restaurant business one service at a time.

TWO COUSINS.

ONE DREAM.

WHERE IT STARTED.

OUR STORY

FROM VENEZUELA

TO DENVER.

Two cousins, thousands of miles from home, and years spent learning our way around a kitchen — long before Pita & Maíz had a name.

IT STARTED WITH FOOD.

Pita & Maíz started with two cousins, a shared love for cooking, and a dream that had been growing for years.

We came to Denver from Venezuela and built our lives here, spending years working side by side in Mexican kitchens. Those kitchens taught us more than recipes. They taught us consistency, discipline, hospitality, and how much care can go into making something people remember.

JOSE LUCAMBIO

THE MEXICAN ROOTS.

For José, cooking started long before Pita & Maíz. Growing up in Venezuela, food was always part of family life, learning to cook alongside his mother and father and developing a love for the kitchen early on.

After moving to Denver, that passion became a career. Years spent working in Mexican kitchens shaped his cooking — from the ingredients and techniques to the bold flavors that became part of his own style.

What started as a childhood dream of someday owning a restaurant eventually became something real: Pita & Maíz.

DANIEL TORRES

THE MEDITERRANEAN INSPIRATION.

For Daniel, food has always been connected to curiosity and discovery. Growing up in Venezuela and later spending time in Italy exposed him to different ways of cooking, eating, and bringing people together around a table.

His time in Italy developed a deeper appreciation for Mediterranean cooking—the fresh ingredients, herbs, breads, and simple preparations that let flavors speak for themselves. Those experiences eventually followed him to Denver and into the kitchen.

What began as inspiration from his travels became part of the foundation of Pita & Maíz—bringing a Mediterranean influence to something we could build together.

DIFFERENT TRADITIONS.

ONE TABLE.

MEXICAN ROOTS. MEDITERRANEAN INSPIRATION.

Pita & Maíz is where everything we’ve learned, tasted, and experienced comes together. We don’t see these traditions as boundaries, but as inspiration—a starting point for creating food that feels familiar while still giving you something new to discover.
